5 Things to Check for When Buying “Health Food” The real food movement is in full force, which on many levels is a good thing. But like any trend in eating, there are unintended consequences that are bound to happen. For example, many products boast using natural ingredients devoid of artificial dyes, high fructose corn syrup and certain preservatives as the selling point. And while that information is still important, it doesn’t automatically mean that food product is better nutritionally than others. This is why I use the same watchful eye with ANY product. So here are 5 signs that what’s behind the illusion of the natural, unadulterated food, isn’t always all that. 1. It’s Packed with Sodium: Most of the sodium in our diets comes from packaged and processed food. An item made under a health halo, still has to add preservatives like sodium, to keep the growth of bacteria at bay. In fact, the use of salt as a preservative has been used for centuries. How much salt is too mu

‘Back in the Day’ concert returns

In the year 2012, the Dome of the Accra International Conference Centre was the place to be as the organizers, Empire Entertainment, in their usual fashion drew Ghanaians to come out and have fun, sing along and dance to their favourite tunes that made wave way back in the late 90s and early 2000. That year, being the maiden event from the organizers, it lived up to its expectation from the delivery of tunes as the audience had nothing to leave back as they sang to every old tune that kept them awake those days. And to say the least, the boom box styled stage was just brilliant. That night had a long list of ‘old soldiers’ rock the stage with their hops, bounces and swags; the roll call were T-Blaze, Ded Buddy, TH4Kwages, Abrewa Nana, Joe Fraizer, NFL, Akatakyie, Keteke, Ex-Doe, Chicago, Slim Buster, Kontihene, Sonny Achiba, Lord Kenya, Obrafour, VIP, et al. This year, on the 6th of December, 2013, the organizers in their strength are bringing the legendary Am

I'm not intimidated by Wizkid's success--Davido

For a long time, there have been comparism between two young Nigerian star singers, Davido and Wizkid. The battle of who is more successful than the other has always generated heated arguments between the fans of both talented pop superstars. Speaking with Punch newspaper recently in an interview, Davido claimed he is not scared or intimidated by the what his 'competitor' has achieved in the music industry. According to him, "I see nobody as competition or threat [to me]. God is behind me, so I just go into the studio, do my music and everything is fine. I develop and write most of my songs in the studio. "I’m not afraid of competition or the fact that some person will just appear on the scene and take the shine. After all, I did it to some people, so I expect that it is something that must happen to everyone because you can’t be shining forever. But once you are good to others, make good music, have loyal fans, that’s all that matters."

Taylor Swift Gets Dissed On YouTube Music Awards

Taylor wasn’t even in attendance at the first-ever YouTube Music Awards, but she still got majorly dissed! Taylor Swift  took home the  YouTube Music Award   for Phenomenon Video for “I Knew You Were Trouble,” and while she wasn’t there to accept it, a group of girls did for her. So, who had the nerve to pull a  Kanye West  on the girls accepting the award? Taylor can’t catch a break! It’s been nearly five years since Kanye interrupted Taylor at the Grammys, and people are still repeating it and continuing to diss her! At the YouTube Awards on Nov. 3, Taylor wasn’t there to accept her award, which went to the video that generated the most fan videos. Instead, a group of girls who had actually created a fan video to the song accepted it in her honor. Half way through their speech, though,  Arcade Fire   front man  Win Butler  stepped up in front of them. He grabbed the mic and completely pulled a Kanye! Beginning with “I’ma let you finish,” in true ‘Ye manor, he went on

Matters Arising: Industry Observer Pours Out Sentiments (part 1)

Hi dear reader, a lot of things have happened in the entertainment industry and today I run you through some of them, trying to make you figure out some of the good, laughable or unserious things that happen in this industry. Let`s take the first one from Nana Kontihene: Emmanuel Nana Appiah Boateng aka Kontihene is a living testimony that good compositions get better with time like any Italian wine. From his solid performance at this year's GMA and recently a “Nite of 1016 Laughs” Kontihene has once again proven that vintage music will also survive in the face of mediocre compositions. Watching him perform at those events, one thing kept running through my mind: “can Nana Boro, Stay Jay or even Yaw Siki get the same response if they mount any stage now?” Okyeame Kwame : Is it me or am just not in sync with current musical trends? Is it obvious that, OK is trying so hard to impress trying to change the status quo. I like his song with Bertha but I think in all fairness h

No Press Conference: Kwaw Kesse Troubles Innocent Boss?

For your information, Flex newspaper can confirm without a shred of doubt that somebody very influential at Vodafone is standing on shaky grounds because of Kwaw Kesse`s infamous invasion of their stage during the grand finale of Vodafone Icons: the street edition. When the whole saga started last September, Kwaw Kesse`s management team promised fans and the general public that they will hold a press conference to inform them about the cheating allegation they leveled on organizers of the Vodafone Icons street edition, where an integral member among the organizers demanded for a huge sum from Kwaw to facilitate his brothers win.     Close to two months after 6th September and nothing has been heard from Kwaw Kesse nor his management team led by Fennech Okyere who in various interviews on radio and television, told the public about their press conference sooner than later.   Now what Flex newspaper is gathering is that one person who was to champion this issue and its afterm
What Not to Do With a Cold A lot of what we believe about the common cold is myth. No, you won't get a cold because you went outside with a wet head or slept in a drafty room. But here's what is true. When you're sick, some common mistakes can make your cold symptoms worse -- or prevent you from getting better.   If you're feeling crummy and stuffed up, here are 7 things that could make your cold worse. Pretending you're not sick . This never works. You can't ignore a cold. When you get sick, you need to take care of yourself. Your body needs extra energy when it's fighting an infection. If you try to push through a cold, especially if you have a fever, you'll exhaust yourself. That could make your cold worse. Not sleeping enough. Getting enough sleep is key for a healthy immune system. One study found that sleeping less than 7 hours a night almost triples your risk of getting a cold in the firs
