Sarkodie and Nadia Buari Top Most Googled Ghanaian Stars For 2013

Every day, around the world, we search. We want to find out more about our heroes, explore far-away destinations, or settle a dinner table dispute between friends. And sometimes we just search to find out if eating ‘waakye’ is a good dieting option. Zeitgeist — German for “spirit of the times” — is Google’s yearly look at the billions of searches performed throughout the year. Google’s Year-End Zeitgeist uses data from multiple sources while filtering out spam and repeat queries, to build fascinating top-ten lists across pop culture, sports, music, politics, news, and more. This year, we reflect on the people, places, moments and topics that sent Ghanaians searching for answers. Topping the list of top trending people in Ghana for 2013 is the late movie star Paul Walker, star of the fast and the furious movie franchise who died only a few weeks ago. Although an American actor, the large amount of Paul Walker-related queries following his death demonstrates his star p

I’m The Tree Of Hiplife

Music legend Gyedu-Blay Ambolley seem to have ended the long-standing argument about who the originator of rap music in Ghana really is after describing himself to NEWS-ONE as the “tree of hiplife”. “When it comes to hiplife, I’m like the tree and the rest of them are the branches,” Ambolley stated when the paper caught up with him about the fast rising music genre in Ghana. Entertainment Pundits over the years referred to Reggie Rockstone as the grandpapa of hiplife until the he openly declared Ambolley as the real ‘Grandpapa’ of the genre at the just-ended Glo Slide and Bounce concert. “I think it was just appropriate that Reggie came out to acknowledge me as the grandpapa of rap music in Ghana. It is called humility. He was the one who opened the eyes for Obrafour and the rest to have that idea that they could actually rap in Twi. That was more like an eye-opener for the rest to follow. I have known Reggie since he was kid because his father was my friend. He w

"How Can I Perform Whilst Drunk" - Amakyi Dede Asks

Highlife living legend and show stopper Daniel Amakyi Dede aka “Seeeeerious” has denied allegations that he was drunk or high before he got on stage to perform at the just ended “Black and White” concert which took place at the Accra International Conference Centre on Friday December 13, 2013. After the well-produced and well organized event, there were comments from most people who attended the show that the known great performer was not his usual-self on stage as he kept staggering and looking very unstable during his much anticipated performance. Speaking on Peace FM’s “Entertainment Review” Abrantie wondered why he would get drunk and come on stage “Oh! No not at all. How can I get drunk to perform on a show? Asked whether he thought he performed well on stage, he said “Well for me, I think I did okay...You know the show was not my show because there were other artistes on the bill so I couldn't perform more hours as I'm used to performing on my own s

Hiplife survived on passion, not money – Tic Tac

The introduction of the Hiplife movement and its growth in the 90s and early 2000s in Ghana was fueled by something more than money. According Tic Tac, one of the pioneering artists who took the genre global, the movement survived mainly on the passion of the artists and their promoters to grow and become that lucrative business it is today. Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show with Bernard Avle in the build up to Decemba 2 Remember, powered by Citi 97.3 FM and Airtel, he shared his story and that of the art Ghanaians and the world have grown to love so much. “I was in secondary school when I started music. It started somewhere in class 6 and in 1996 I got into mainstream. I went professional in 1999/2000 when I graduated from Secondary School. Abraham Ohene Gyan gave me a chance to go professional. I had done gigs with Azigizah and Slim Buster before that though. I had a group called Naty Strangers, we were three and later we became four,” he explained. Accordin

AND THE BIG BLOW Hmm,its sad and bitter but......... I am sure EFO MAWULI will never come back with the continuation of BREAK OVER as he has said earlier.I would have to continue to make the story whole just like I am doing in his life. At exactly 18 hours 34 minutes on the 17th day after the GARDEN WEDDING,we lost the most powerful source of inspiration the late CELESTINE FUMEY,a wonderful woman indeed. I beseech you guys all to help me you this platform to say my tribute to such an industrious and inspirational woman (MY MOTHER IN LAW). I pay tribute to the memory of a woman who has imparted my life in different ways within a short  period of knowing her. "Sister" as I simply call her accepted and took me as her own blood.  Typically related to her through my husband, sister inspired and supported her children like my  husband to be either virtuous wives or responsible husbands to their spouses. I saw her as  great liaison officer (mother) a
