‘12 Years a Slave’ Lupita Nyong’o on Meets Steve McQueen
Lupita Nyong’o is having a moment. Steve McQueen’s Best Picture nominee 12 Years a Slave has made her a star and earned her a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination. Her name was on everyone’s lips when she stepped out in an unforgettable red gown at last week’s Golden Globes; if they didn’t know her before, they definitely know her now.
Nyong’o graduated from the Yale School
of Drama and didn’t waste much time before winning the coveted role of
Patsey in McQueen’s Slave. A nineteenth century slave brutally
abused by the sadistic Epps (played by Michael Fassbender), Patsey was a
grueling role for which Nyong’o just won the SAG Award for Best
Supporting Actress.
